About Artist
Jimb has developed vision and proficiencies in various art mediums for most of his life, but until recently, without the compelling passion that defines a true artist.
He began experimenting with oils at the age of 21 (1968), taking many local classes and producing several paintings, but lost interest, followed by a long hiatus.
Living in London, England (1977 - 1981) he petitioned his muse for another chance and was subsequently inspired to paint large canvasses with dramatic African wildlife.
He sold 3 paintings while abroad and after moving back to California, sold 4 more. He abandoned painting for the duration and at the age of 49 acquired his first digital camera with which he began to explore obscure minutia from the world around him and then to digitally modify the images in ways that produced works of art that often defy comprehension.
While living in Southern California, Jimb became involved in a Tantric group, which essentially teaches sacred sexuality and reverence for the goddess as well as acceptance of the diversity of sexual/sensual/lifestyle choices and expressions. In this supportive and playful setting he experienced a deep expansion into the spiritual realms of Eros. His fuse was lit.
Sensual pursuits with multiple partners, through guided instruction in Tantric ‘Pujas’, and workshops known as “Intimate Oil Experience” allowed Jimb to become comfortable, confident, and trusted, leading to a deepening exploration with his digital camera. This was a formative period of rapid expansion of his perception of self as erotic artist.
With permission from the 20 other players in his new-found ‘family’, he began taking pictures at the parties and exploring what might lie behind the obvious beauty. He discovered a universe of hidden possibility and began working in earnest to find and develop the mysteriously nuanced visions afforded by looking both spiritually inward, and with his camera— perceptually outward, at an unlimited visual dimension of possibility that was essentially invisible to most. He named his work Eroticography and after funding the development of several works was accepted into two juried art exhibitions; one at the Lifestyles convention in August 2003, and a few months later at an erotic Art exhibition at the Sharp Gallery in North Park (San Diego).
Although the events provided important feedback, sales of the original body of work were lackluster and so— another long retirement.
Fast forward to 2020 and Covid; in March social distancing became the norm and the gym closed. With the curtailment of his normal social life, time alone increased dramatically.
Having retained most of what he produced nearly 18 - 20 years prior, and sharing them with others who insisted that he was sitting on an expression of genius, Jimb began to explore and produce works that reflect his dormant love from a far wider artistic perspective.
Most of the many new pieces are stunning in the intense—yet delicate use of color, coupled with the mystery of how to interpret the mystical forms that emerge from the (often) kaleidoscopically altered pieces of whole photos. No two images produce the same outcome.
The feedback is nearly universal—surprise, delight and amused perplexity. “WOW” is the most common response. Jimb’s re-emergence as an artist is complete. The previous body of work pales in comparison to what he is inspired to create today. He says, “I am conscious, inspired and determined to leave an artistic legacy before I depart which, at 74, isn’t looking so far off.
“I am well on my way to launching the ‘personal Erotic Art’ aspect of my vision; which is working with images from private photo shoots, as well as those submitted to me from others who shoot their own”.
